Filter Behaviour

This page describes the steps we took to test the filter behaviour for organisations as well as the conclusion of the user tests

User tests

Introduction

These user tests were conducted to test the filter behaviour of users when searching for an organisation. It was done during the session about the new contact details feature. The conclusions of that part of the usertesting can be found on Usertesting - new feature - contact details.

The reason for this test is that we want to upgrade the way users are currently using the filter function. We want to see how they interact with it now, to make sure we prioritise the right items.

Participants

For these user tests, we have worked with users of the Worship services part of the Organisation Portal, as well as KAR members who will be using OP in the future.

The KAR users hadn't used OP in prior to the sessions

We held 5 sessions:

  • 1 session with 3 LOW members (Worship services)

  • another session with 3 LOW members (Worship services)

  • 1 session with 3 members of LSVP (KAR)

  • 1 session with 3 members of LF (KAR)

  • 1 session with 3 members of LF (KAR)

Test

We asked the users in what contexts they used the filters for organisations within their job and asked how they searched for organisations within that context. We then asked them to test it out for some organisations.

Conclusions

For this specific feature, it's more interesting to focus on sessions 1 and 2, as the other sessions were joined by people from our KAR who don't use the organisation portal yet. They will be using the portal of different purposes and organisation. A deeper analysis on their filtering needs will be done in the future.

  1. All 6 users we talked to said they always search by Gemeente first. If needed they refine their search even more by adding the filters Soort Eredienst.

  2. The users don't use the name filter because:

    1. Not all worship services have names that are easy to spell --> it's quicker and easier to search via Gemeente

    2. The filter differentiates between St. and Sint, and the users don't

Things to improve

ItemPriorityJiraNotes

Improve the name filter to not differentiate between st./sint, and to account for typos, etc...

OP-1517

To discuss if we want to develop some sort of a synonym list and how much of development time it would take. I suggest that we wait until we get more request.

This is not a priority, as the users don't use this filter often, but it could become important in the future

Data quality on names

  1. This will be picked up in refinement ticket OP-1439 (Analyse Names of Organisations - part 2)

  1. Users mentioned names in OP not being the same as in the Notulen - is this something we need to tackle?

  2. Users also mentioned some organisations being in the portal both as active and inactive - is this OK?

Notes from sessions

Session 1

  • I always search via Gemeente. When I try to do it via name it doesn't always give the results I'm looking for. I use the filters: Gemeente, Provincie, Soort Eredienst.

    • same for other users

    • It's hard to search via name because they're not always consistent. Sometimes it's st. sometimes it's Sint...

  • This system works well for us, there's no change needed

  • Status: Gets used by some of the users because some organisations are in there twice, once as active, once as not active

    • [is this a data quality issue?]

  • I will only search via name if I cannot find the result I'm looking for via Gemeente

  • Even if the name filter would work perfectly, I would still search via Gemeente because sometimes the same name is used in different Gemeenten.

Session 2

  • I search on Gemeente and Soort Eredienst, adding Active sometimes - This filters it down to quite a small list so it makes it easy to find the perfect

    • Its easier, some names are harder to spell out so it's just quicker to filter by something else than a name

  • All other users agree

  • First thing is the Gemeente, then IF necessary to narrow down the list even further they use the type of worship service

    • names aren't always written the same way in OP as they are in the Notulen

      • [is this a data quality issue?]

  • One user also mentions going the a CB and then related organisations
